About the artist

Halldór Kristjánsson (b. 1992, Reykjavík) is an Icelandic contemporary painter whose work explores the enigmatic terrain of dreams, memory, and symbolism. Masterfully executed in oil, his art is deeply rooted in the techniques and dramatic intensity of the Old Masters.

Drawing inspiration from the 19th-century Symbolist movement, Kristjánsson creates hauntingly beautiful narratives that feel both timeless and personal. His paintings feature archetypal imagery and solitary figures set against the vast, dramatic backdrop of the Icelandic psyche. A distinctive layer of nostalgia is woven into his dreamscapes through the inclusion of mundane  objects and everyday items that act as poignant relics, inviting a meditation on time and memory.

This unique fusion of the classical and the contemporary, the mythical and the personal, establishes Kristjánsson as a significant and compelling voice in Iceland's vibrant art scene. His work invites viewers into a space of quiet contemplation, where the boundaries between dream and reality gently blur.
